Who Am I?

The Christian's Identity

According to the Book of Genesis, God made a body out of dust and breathed divine breath into it, making the body of dust alive.  The dust then became a Soul—a whole creature. A 'person'. A 'total self'. A living, breathing being.  In Hebrew, the word for Soul is 'Nephesh'. In Greek, the word is 'Psyche'.  Our Soul's true nature is, and always has been, love, joy, peace, patience, etc. As a result of Adam & Eve's fall in the garden, the Soul became identified with or under the influence of what scripture calls 'the old man or old self' (fear, envy, jealousy, anger, guilt, etc.). Then, when Jesus came, those who made a conscious decision to accept and believe in 'The Word', 'The Truth', had their Souls set free from the 'old self' and its domination, and became new creations in Christ: a new man/new self (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc.).  As the Apostle Paul stated, at times, the body still did things that he didn't want it to do (us believers can all relate).  But, as he stated, it wasn't 'He' (new man self) that did it, it was the remnants of the 'old man self' that did it.  Liberation.

"For the Christian believer, their 'Soul' is one with God.  And nothing can ever separate their Soul from God, because God is Love".  It has nothing to do with 'achievement or doing', such as following rules or commandments.  Just 'acceptance' of the truth".

Scripture Truths about the 'new self'

(Ephesians 4:20-24)

"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness".

(2Corinthians 5:17)

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old is gone, the new is here"

(Colossians 3:10)

"Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator"

(Romans 6:6-7)

For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
